Shows a group of Maori women laughing and gossiping outside a whare. One woman has a baby on her back, one has a puppy on her knee and an elderly woman stands in front of the seated group, telling them the latest scandal. To the right, a sow is suckling her litter.
Artist is George Sherriff, who was active in Wanganui at the time. Lithographer (W. P.) is William Potts. The Wanganui herald of 1 May 1891, reported that a painting by Sherriff '(measures about 25in by 20in) has been purchased by Mr Willis and he intends to lithograph it in eight or ten printings.'
