Photographs mostly taken in the area of Mount Tarawera after the 1886 eruption, showing the extreme changes to the landscape. Chiefly taken by Charles Spencer and J C Blythe, members of the survey party led by Stephenson Percy Smith. Some are taken by photographer Josaiah Martin [possibly not a member of the survey team]. The album includes one image of a boiling acid lake on White Island. A hand-printed index can be found at the beginning of the album.
