Orange and black screen printed poster advertising a women's cricket match between England and New Zealand. An arrangement of text with stylised wicket, bail, and ball.
Sadly the New Zealand team was thoroughly beaten, suffering severely from nervousness and inexperience. Some commentators remarked that the New Zealanders “did not seem to know how to hit a loose ball and did not use their feet properly, and … their running between the wickets was very poor”. It was a wake-up call from which the New Zealand team actually benefited greatly. See report of the match in the Press, 19 February 1935, page 10
The first-ever women's Test match took place between Australia and England in Brisbane on 28, 29 and 31 December 1934; at the end of the Australian leg of the tour, the England team, captained by Betty Archdale, was unbeaten in 21 matches, winning 15, with six unfinished. New Zealand was next ...
