A view of a pontoon ferry crossing Lake Pukaki, poled by a man standing on one side. Cables are attached to both ends of the ferry. People and goods are on board. A house is on the left by the ramp leading to the water. A rowboat and cows are in the foregound. A small island in the lake to the right has further buildings and possibly poplar trees
