Description

Photographs of World War I, Belgium and France, taken ca 1917-1918 and compiled into an album by Len Harries. Most of the photographs have been captioned by Harries but the donor has written additional captions to identify Harries in some of the photographs.

Includes photographs of groups of soldiers, damaged buildings and tanks (including Cloth Hall in Ypres), craters, local women and children, aircraft, soldiers in a trench, stretcher bearing.

Provenance: Len Harries was a cousin of the donor's father and Harries met the donor's mother, Gwendoline Ryall (later Randell), while on leave in England. He left the album with her when he returned to New Zealand.
