The collection comprises Strewe's correspondence with his family in Germany (much of this is in German), his New Zealand family and friends. It also includes papers relating to his Somes Island internment, his work as a lansdscape gardener and architect, tapes and transcripts of interviews with Frank Sargeson, poetry, articles, short stories, journals, a film project for the Australian Film Commission with Marsha Bennett and other material.

Source of title - Supplied
Strewe left Germany late in 1937 and arrived in New Zealand via Canada, Hawaii and Fiji in 1938. He was interned on Somes Island from 1941 to 1946 and worked as a journalist following his release. He was a member of Orini and Riverside communes (1947-1949), studied and then practised landscape architecture. From 1949 to 1969 he lived and worked in Auckland. Around 1972 he moved to Australia. He wrote plays, poetry, and was actively involved in many protest movements.
