Provenance: The collection has several different provenances: (a) Miscellaneous papers mainly relating to Mrs Elizabeth Cook and Cook's descendants, including letters from Mrs Cook to H Jenkins, and genealogical tables, 1790-1946; (b) Photocopied material on Cook's voyages collected from various repositories by J C Beaglehole; (c) Official letters from Cook mainly to the Admiralty, 1768-1793, all of which are photocopies, except for Cook's description of the transit of Venus (MS-Papers-0200-24) which is a printed facsimile copy; (d) Four photocopied documents, with translations, from the Dutch National Archives relating to Cook's visit to Batavia in the Dutch East Indies at the end of his first voyage.
