Description

A single sheet calendar shows a picture by E Mervyn Taylor, of a group of Maori in traditional dress, conducting a bartering arrangement. The attached text sheet discusses pre-European times, ceremonial feasts, trival possessions, food, spare time pursuits, canoe builders, tattooing, property ownership, tohungas, exchange, the coming of the white man, tattooed heads, trade for muskets and land, British coinage. The text sheet also has small illustrations by E Mervyn Taylor.
