Landscapes, especially rock and sky studies (some probably of Bondi Rocks, Sydney and Sydney Heads), buildings, a preliminary study for the oil Funeral at Marken, studies of people.
One double-sided pencil and watercolour sketch removed and framed in the 1970s: 'Creek' [Bondi Rocks] located at G-488
Dated around 1900. Van der Velden was resident in Sydney until 1904, when he moved to New Zealand
Inscriptions: Inscriptions in Dutch and initials PvdV inside front cover in pencil; also inscription on page one.

Description: A procession of Dutch men and women in their national costume The arrangement of the figures is very similar to the procession seen in the oil at the Robert McDougall Art Gallery, Christchurch, Dutch Funeral, Marken, ca 1872, first exibited in 1890 Dating: in a sketchbook of Australian drawings done during the artist's stay in Sydney, 1898-1904. Description: Two head and shoulders profile views of the same man, one dated Avonside, Christchurch, 27 June 1892, the other drawn on the torn-out title page of a Dutch-English dictionary. Loose in sketchbook. These two Christchurch drawings predate most of the sketchbook's content, drawn in Australia some years later. Several partially-legible Dutch words under the man's hair may indicate 'written by P van der Velden' and 'by Rika van der Velden' Other Titles - Avonside, Christchurch. June.
