Description

Original Evening Post caption reads: "Two Queens, their dress reflecting their different cultural backgrounds, side by side at Ngaruawahia yesterday. The Maori Queen, Arikinui Dame Te Atairangikaahu and her husband (centre), welcomed Queen Elizabeth to the Turangawaewae Marae where she watched a display of Maori tradition and culture and opened the Kimiora Hall cultural centre. Queen Elizabeth conceded precedence to the Maori Queen on the marae and sat on her right to watch the display." Photograph taken either 9 or 10 February 1974 by an unidentified Evening Post staff photographer and published 11 February 1974.
