Portrait of Esther James on her 1932 marathon walk from Spirits Bay to Stewart Island. Taken by William Beetham, an Evening Post photographer, and published in the 'Evening Post' newspaper on 1 April 1932.
James wore solely New Zealand made clothes and shoes for the duration of the walk.
