Photographs of construction projects undertaken by Hansford & Mills Construction Company.
The most important section consists of views of Parliament Buildings in Wellington, with a large number of images, both exterior and interior. Much of the detail relates to the marble columns and veneer, the marble sourced from the Kairuru Quarry in the Takaka Hills.
Interior views show details of various areas, including the Legislative Council Chamber, the House of Representatives, the Maori Committee Room, the lobby for the members' lounge, and marble decoration in the main vestibule, the first floor, and the staircase.
There are a number of images of the Kairuru Quarry, showing methods of quarrying the marble, transportation of the marble to Wellington, and machinery used for cutting and shaping the stone once it had arrived in Wellington. One scene also shows the incline at the old quarry at Sandy Bay.
Other buildings, all only exterior views, or views of steel construction in early stages, include the State Fire Insurance Building (Featherston Street), Magnus Motors (Wakefield Street), the steelyard in Cable Street, the Ford Building (for Colonial Motor Company), and the Wellington Gas Company buildings, all in Wellington. Also two views of the Christchurch branch of the Wellington Woollen Company.
