- Description
A procession of naval officer with Gold Commissioner Charles Heaphy, two men carrying a tree-fern or nikau, several carrying panning and digging equipment, some (as stick figures) coming down from a high hill with rocks falling about them, other playing leap-frog on the beach to the left. The H. M. S. Pandora is standing off to the left at sea.

Ye medical officer who gathered ferns and mosses [Dr John Jolliffe, carrying a tree-fern on his shoulder]; ye Gold Commissioner [artist Charles Heaphy, carrying a gold pan] ; Ye nuggets [a small pile of gold nuggets carried on a cradle between two officers; Master Oke ; The boy Jones [Theodore Morton Jones, with pick and pan]; Ye Sheeney [bringing up the rear to the far right, with pick on his shoulder]
