New Zealand Graphic & Ladies Journal :A Musical Evening, [by an unknown artist]. 1890
A seated woman pianist, a male violinist, a standing woman behind them, observed by a seated man in a parlour.
Caption from Making New Zealand (no. 25, p. 9) reads: A musical evening of the nineties. At this time many parents trained their children to play various instruments in the home, and an evening such as the one illustrated was a most popular form of amusement. The advent of the gramophone and the radio has done much to displace music-playing in the home.
