- Description
Wellington City, photographed by the Tyree Brothers in the late 1890s. The brick building in the centre, with the turret, is the Public Library on the corner of Mercer and Wakefield Street. Also visible is the City Destructor, Te Aro railway station, Te Aro Baths, Cuba Street, Wakefield Street, the Star Boating Club, the boating shed of the naval artillery, the Working Men's Club, the spire of St Mary's of the Angels, the Duke of Edinburgh Hotel, Wilkins & Field ironmongers, and a sign advertising Griffin & Sons.
