Transcriptions made by Holman of Elsdon Best's annotations in books on Maori culture. The books annotated are Te Ika a Maui or New Zealand and its inhabitants, by Rev Richard Taylor, London 1870, 2nd edition; The Waikato war by John Fenton, Auckland, 1924; The Story of Aotea by Rev T G Hammond, Christchurch 1924; The Maori race by Edward Tregear, Wanganui 1904; Williams Maori dictionary by H W Williams, Wellington 1917; Pakeha rambles through Maori lands by Lt-Col St John, Wellington 1873; The Adventures of Kimble Bent by James Cowan, Wellington, 1911; Where the white man treads across the pathway of the Maori by W B Baucke, Auckland 1928; Reminiscences and Maori stories by Gilbert Mair, Auckland 1923. Elsdon Craig, who also inherited the books, has added some comments.
