Description

Shows riverbed boulders in foreground, cliffs and waterfall in background.

Verso describes in diary form the events of 11-13 April: the finding of a damaged surfboat taken against express orders; a retreat commenced leaving 300 men in Redoubt - reached Tongahoe and camped. Next day marched to Patea - cold rainy weather - comment on ineffectiveness of steamer communication along coast.
