Inscriptions: Recto - beneath image - [Title]

This house was the second house built to identical plans on this site. The first version built in about 1846-47 and known as Scoria House, was lived in by Governor Grey, but was bought after his 1853 departure by Mr Thomas Keven, a boot manufacturer. John Kinder painted "Auckland from the verandah of Mr Keven's house 1855", from the first version. In September 1857, the house burnt down, but Keven rebuilt it again to its original plan. It was tenanted by General D.A. Cameron. It was bought in about December 1865 by Charles Davis.
