Description

The two pencil sketches are likely to be profile self-portraits of McFarlane. In the top sketch he sits in the river washing his own clothes. Below is a head and shoulder profile portrait of him in a pith smoking a pipe like me now? Haven't seen my face for months so excuse flattery".

At top right is a ticket (probably for a bus) in Bombay, listing 278 stops, including: Sassoon Dock, Grant's Building, Museum East, Ballard Pier, Bori Bunder, Dhobi Talao, Prince's Dock, Girgaum P Ch, Pydhonie, Nall Bazar, Charni Rd Jn, Grant Rad, Foras rd, Tardeo, Mazacon.

The two handwritten envelopes show several forwarding addresses.
