Huru Te Hiaro
- [Between 1880 and 1890]
Carte de visite portrait of Huru Te Hiaro, a Rangitane leader of north Wairarapa, wearing a kakahu (cloak), taken, probably in the 1880s, by Samuel Carnell of Napier.
Date assigned on the basis that Carnell used the dry plate process later in his career.
Another portrait of this man, probably taken at the same sitting, is housed at 1/4-022094-G.
Inscriptions: Marginal notes on negative - centre left - Huru te Hiaro
The kakahu appears in other portraits by Carnell, and was probably owned by the studio.
