Part of the NZ Cartoon Archive Garrick Tremain, born 1941, is a New Zealand cartoonist and painter based in Queenstown. He has painted professionally since 1972, and created cartoons professionally since 1988. Tremain has produced a cartoon 6-7 days each week for various New Zealand newspapers including the Otago Daily Times, aside from a semi-retirement in 2007 where he began publishing weekly. Tremain was a finalist for the Qantas Media Awards Cartoonist in 2000 and 2004.

In three cameos on the left side former leader of the National Party Don Brash hijacks ACT leader Rodney Hide's car by threatening Hide with a gun and then tossing him out and taking over the steering wheel himself. I the three cameos on the right side former Maori Party MP Hone Harawira leaps out of the Maori Party car that has plummeted off the road and crawls to safety; next we hear banging and sawing noises coming from a garage and lastly we see Hone on his new hand-made motor scooter named 'Mana'. Don Brash sneers 'Nice ride Hone!' and Hone replies 'Least I made my own'. Context - Don Brash has replaced Rodney Hide as ACT leader after a bloodless coup and Hone Harawira has resigned from the Maori Party and started his own party which is to be called 'Mana'. Description: PM Sid Holland and leader of the Labour opposition Walter Nash dressed in togs prepare to take to the water which represents the 'election'. Sid Holland has an outboard motor attached to his back to which is tied a label reading 'waterfront policy'; he confidently starts the motor preparing to launch into the snap election of 1951. Walter Nash has a brick labelled 'waterfront politics' tied around his neck and he scratches his head indecisively. The 1951 waterfront confrontation which was essentially crushed by the government and over which Labour was criticised for fence-sitting and of Communist sympathies during the ellection campaign resulted in an increased majority to 20 seats for National. Context - The 'debate' between the New Zealand government and the International Rugby Board (IRB) over whether members of the Fijian team who are friends or relations of the government will be allowed to come to New Zealand to play in the Rugby World Cup.
