Waitangi Day at He Tohu: Walking backwards into the future

Come to the National Library this Waitangi Day to see the original Treaty of Waitangi and engage with Aotearoa’s history.

Event cancelled

Our Waitangi Day event has been cancelled due to the Red traffic light settings, this includes access to the Library and He Tohu exhibition. He Tohu will reopen on Tuesday, 8 February 2022.

Join us for a tour of He Tohu

Come and get up close and personal with the Treaty of Waitangi at the National Library this Waitangi Day!

Join us between 9:30am and 4:30pm for a 30-minute tour exploring He Tohu — the award-winning exhibition that features all nine original signed sheets of the Treaty of Waitangi.

Tours begin on the hour and half hour throughout the day.

Waitangi Day activities for the whānau

We will also have other activities available (restrictions permitting) to help you learn and reflect on the ways in which the signing of the Treaty has impacted on our nation’s history.

Get involved in arts and crafts projects for the whole whānau, participate in a Māori pronunciation workshop, and learn more about the Māori words used in Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
