From 12 August we will be closing our space to make way for an exciting new partnership with the Wellington City Libraries.

We're partnering with Wellington City Libraries

The National Library is delighted to partner with Wellington City Libraries in making more New Zealand content accessible, following the closure of the Wellington Central Library.

The current space will be redesigned, reconfigured, and refreshed, offering customers a small collection of books and magazines to browse and borrow.

New space expected to open during October

The new space is expected to open during October and will offer:

  • an Aotearoa and Māori collection of 5,000 books including children’s titles
  • free WiFi
  • public computers
  • printing facilities
  • access to digital content, and
  • space to work.

It will take some time to set-up and configure the space, with an expected opening date sometime during October. The area will be unavailable to the public during this time.

Computer access will still be available in the Alexander Turnbull Library Reading Room on Level 1 for research purposes, as well as WiFi available in all public areas of the National Library.
