Drunkard's Garden by Sam Hunt

Date: 1977-1978

From: Hunt, Samuel Percival Maitland, 1946-: Collection

By: Missen, Lindsay, active 1970s-2012

Reference: MS-Papers-12070-366

Description: Volume of poetry published by Hampson Hunt, Deaths Corner, Pauatahanui, Wellington, 1977 [title page] 1978 [imprint page]. Designed by Lindsay Missen. This would appear to have been Hunt's own working copy with annotations, and contact details for a number of people inscribed on the final pages of the volume. The poem 'Birth of a son' (page 21) has what appears to be a correction in the poets own hand: the name "Joshua" is deleted and the name "Tom" inserted to replace it. This would appear to reflect the fact that Tom Wickens-Hunt, who was born 3 August 1976, was originally named Joshua, then Josh, before finally being given the name "Tom" (see Peter Smart, 'Introducing Sam Hunt' (1981), page 27). Quantity: 1 folder(s). Physical Description: Printed published volume.
