Contains letters from Maori to McLean with regard to land tenure; in particular, there are letters about the subdivision of land and the sale of tapu land without the full agreement of the owners.
There are also letters about the establishment of a school, requests for sheep, and about disputes concerning the delivery of mail; one letter discusses the establishment of the Kingitanga movement in the Wairarapa by Ngairo Rakaihikuroa.
