From Auckland. Born 1 April 1924. Marine biologist, scholar, theologian, conservationist and television presenter. Published many articles, books and newspaper columns. Studied at the University of Auckland, gained a Doctorate in Science at the University of London in 1959. Chair of the School of Zoology and Biological Sciences at Auckland University from 1959 to 1988. In 1989 he became a founding member of the New Labour Party. Married to Pat Morton, two children. Died 6 March 2011.

One large volume of pressed New Zealand ferns, with handwritten captions. Also detailed household accounts kept by Mrs Patricia Morton (1920-2011) from her marriage in March 1956 until April 1999 (with December 1968 - November 1970 missing), including initial three years in England.
