Fell, Walter, 1855-1932

Doctor Walter Fell, son of Fanny and Alfred Fell, a pioneer merchant of Nelson. Brother of Charles Yates Fell. Married Margaret Richmond in 1886. Lived in Wellington practice in Willis Street, until he moved out to Lower Hutt ca 1910. He was a member of the Academy of Fine Arts. Mahina Bay is named after his house and yacht "Mahina". (Information from his great-grandson Peter Hector, 1999).

Description: Charles Yates Fell photograph album. Many of the photographs taken by C Y Fell. Album created as a memory for relative, Alice Blake (nee Richmond), including portraits and group portraits of family and friends; scenes of holidays around the Totaranui, Abel Tasman National Park area; and the homes of the Richmond family (Fairfield) and the Fell family (St John's) in Nelson. One image shows all the members of the New Zealand House of Representatives 3rd Parliament in 1851 (Most are named). Many of the images are of festive occasions with large family gatherings, including Xmas parties and costumes for a fancy-dress ball at Totaranui (January 1890).
