Grey, Pearl Zane, 1872-1939

American writer of Westerns, many nonfiction books on fishing and hunting; six juvenile novels; two baseball novels; plus short stories, anthologies, and many magazine articles. More than 100 Hollywood movies were based on Grey's works. Friend of Nola Luxford. Came to New Zealand on big-game fishing trips using Urupukapuka Island as a base from about 1927, which subsequently became a world-famous fishing resort. Camp known as Zane Grey's Camp in the 1920s.

A press notice in a New Zealand newspaper (Weekly News) had indicated Grey`s intended trip in 1926 to New Zealand. Also includes a typescript draft of a chapter about trout fishing in New Zealand headed up `Tongariro, 1929'. Also includes one further letter to Grey regarding fishing in New Zealand (1924) and two outward letters from Grey to correspondents; an envelope with Zane's camp in Tahiti written on the reverse and some published pages from a book on Grey's visit to New Zealand.
