Surveyor, civil engineer and administrator. Born Clifton, Gloucestershire. Surveyor Auckland province (1857-1859); District Surveyor Native Land Purchase department (1859-1863). Later with the Canterbury Province; in 1865 surveyed the western end of the road from Christchurch over Arthur's Pass. Chief Surveyor, Westland Mar 1868, and Commissioner of Crown Lands, Westland May 1869. Surveyor General of Western Australia 1870. WA Commissioner of Crown Lands 1872. Colonial Secretary 1883-1890; Governor's spokesman in the Legislative Council. Helped revise Crown land regulations; with the constitutional discussions leading to Parliamentary Government 1890. CMG 1881, KCMG 1887. In London as Western Australia's first agent-general 1890-8. Died at Clifton [Charles Lawn. Pioneer surveyors of New Zealand]

Description: Shows three scenes. In the top right a traveller is being frisked at the passport desk. When he objects he is told he is being checked for 'guns, bombs, drugs or abducted children'. In the lower left Muldoon is presenting his passport at the desk while the passport officers listen to him muttering about the Australian Prime Minister, Malcolm Fraser. In the lower right 'the criminal element', two shady looking men are about to travel. One is holding six passports, trying to decide which one to use. Description: Map of Maori land blocks in the Wairarapa, namely the Te Awaite and Pahaua Block, Werita's Pahaua Block and Arama Karaka's Block. Te Awaite is bounded by the Kapuni River, southwards to the Awhea River, northwards by the Pahaua River and eastwards by the coast. Shows the Oterei and the Kerewakaite Creek, a Maori track from Te Awaite to Hautotara, the home of a settler named Cameron, the Riddiford's homestead next to the Te Awaite Pa, Auariki Reserve and Pukororo Reserve. On the western boundary is 500 acres belonging to Te Marutuna and others. Werita's Pahaua Block is northeast of the Pahaua River; northwest is Arama Karaka's Block (about 3900 acres). West of the blocks is Native land; southwest is Awhea Block. Written on map: 'Duplicate of plan'. Other Titles - Te Awaiti Quantity: 1 map(s) on two sheets. Description: Poster advertising an exhibition at Auckland City Art Gallery, shows photographic portraits of three men: Robert Muldoon ("Piggy"), Sir John Kerr the Australian Governor-General ("Cur"), and Malcolm Fraser ("Prefect") The Library's copy has the words stamped twice: "This poster has been censored", and the words "Piggy", "Cur" and "Prefect" have been blacked out and are not readable. The letter (P) in brackets stands for "Provisional" (email from Chips Mackinolty, 18 March 2011) Information about the artist and the blacked-out words was retrieved from website http://www.printsandprintmaking.gov.au/catalogues/work/24789/chips-mack, on 22 May 2009. This shows that Chips Mackinolty and Terry Smith were the designers of the poster. An email from the artist Chips Mackinolty on 18 March 2011: "Printed and designed by me at Earthworks Poster Collective, Sydney University Art Workshop (Tin Sheds) in 1976 for the Art & Language group in Sydney".
