Date: 1931
By: Beckham, Eleanor, active 1930-1940s; Ramsden, George Eric Oakes, 1898-1962
Reference: A-356-008
Description: A signed photograph of a portrait drawing of Te Rangi Hiroa (Sir Peter Buck) as a young man in an open-necked shirt. "Te Rangi Hiroa; the life of Sir Peter Buck", by J. B. Condliffe, says the original of this portrait is in the Bishop Museum, Honolulu. It gives the name of the artist as Eleanor Beckman. However Buck's letter to Apirana Ngata in 1931, gives the name as Eleanor Beckham, "a good New York artist", and this perhaps ties in with the Eleanor Beckham who translated a book by Jacques Maroger, entitled "The Secret Formulas and Techniques of the Masters" (1948). Quantity: 1 photograph(s). Physical Description: Photograph of crayon drawing, 255 x 195 mm.
