Thorsen, Douglas Martin, 1913-1997

Thorsen was born in South Africa and spent most of his working life at sea. Before his retirement in 1978, he worked for the Marine Department in Picton. In 1980, Thorsen travelled from Mt Maunganui to Pitcairn Island aboard the MV `Pecan' where he spent two and a half months as the guest of the magistrate and his family at Adamstown. He returned to New Zealand by sea, via Tahiti.
