Bibby family : Records of Bibby's Store

Description: Grocery books and an order ledger for Bibby's Store. Volumes supply customer details including name, date, items ordered and purchase prices. Some pages are annotated with sketches, doodles and additional customer information. Source of title - Supplied by Library Bibby's Store was founded by Edward Bibby and Mary Ann Bibby (nee Woodhouse) in Waipawa on the 24th July 1862. The store was located at the junction of Hampden Road and the main road north to Napier, on the banks of the Waipawa River. In the early 1880s the old building was moved across the road on skids, Edward Bibby erected a new store on the original site. Mary Bibby also ran a mail-order business from the store. The Bibby's had eight children, many of whom worked alongside them in the family business. Quantity: 33 volume(s). 1.50 Linear Metres. Physical Description: Mss (pencil and black ink) Provenance: Collection was salvaged by Mr H Bibby in 1997. Some volumes were beyond repair hence they were not deposited with the Library.
