Description: Lodge reports that a newly-issued English pound note depicts Britannia as a young maiden holding a spear and a palm branch. His three alternative drawings show her holding a fern and a boomerang; with 'Commonwealth Preferences' as a ball and chain, and as a sexy maiden, being eyed up by a Frenchman, holding the flag as a shield to cover her nudity, "designed to appeal to the French". The cartoon refers to Britain's wish to join the European Economic Community being hampered by France's attitude and Commonwealth [trade] preferences. Quantity: 1 original cartoon(s).
