Description: Comprise minutes, correspondence, financial and membership records, certificates, and published material (rules, annual reports etc) of the Grand Lodge of the North Island of New Zealand, together with minutes and records from a number of local lodges. Despite its name, the Grand Lodge included Nelson and Westland in its district. The collection is incomplete, especially among the local lodge material. Source of title - Supplied Arrangement: Arranged in series, according to original provenance The first New Zealand lodge, the Pioneer Lodge of the Grand Lodge of Victoria, opened in Christchurch in 1876. In 1895 ties with the Victorian Grand Lodge were severed and the Grand Lodge for the North Island of New Zealand was opened. Other Grand Lodges were established in Canterbury and Otago.
