Description: Transparencies taken inside the Purple Onion strip club, Wellington, by Beavis circa 1970. These transparencies include annotations such as numbers and notes on condition. PA12-3059-02 shows an image of dancer Barbara Jennings, known as Candy Cane. Also includes transparencies taken by Cyril Beavis in the 1960s showing a large collection of toys. Transparencies showing toys are also at PA12-3055 to 3057, and PA12-3060 to 3061. Transparencies taken of the Purple Onion are also at PA12-3057 and PA12-3058. Title supplied by Library. A note was inserted into one of the slide pockets, possibly by a researcher or archivist at an unknown date. This note read "Barbara Jennings 'Candy Cane'". Arrangement: Slides delivered in housing with annotations that read "Purple Onion" and "Toys 2nds". The Purple Onion Revue Bar was a strip club located at 140 Vivian Street, Wellington, that opened circa 1965 and flourished until circa 1974. Quantity: 23 colour original transparency/ies. Description: Made by New-Ray Toys Company Ltd. A yellow Fiat Bambina (model 500F), with opening doors and 'speedy power' (pull back and go) mechanism. Adorned with transfers that read 'The Topp Twins', 'I [heart] NZ' and 'Camp'. The floor of the car's box shows a picture of the Topp Twins in character. Description: Shows four crafty looking men (the advertising agents) looking at four wind-up toys. Two of the men are greedily counting large bundles of money which they have in their hands. The toys, which represent political parties, are spinning around on wheels with wind - up keys in their backs. One of them (Rowling) has fallen over and another (Muldoon) is smiling and waving.
