Orakei Korako

Orakeikorako

Once celebrated thermal area on the banks of the Waikato River about 20 km north of Taupo. In 1856 Hochstetter reported the place as having 76 boiling springs on the western side of the river, with even more on the opposite bank. Thermal activity has greatly diminished as a consequence of adjacent hydro-electric development.
