He also gave the opening and closing dates, the name of the road it was on as well as other historical information relating to the station. Information recieved January 2011. Inscriptions: Photographer's title on negative - bottom right - A Northwood protected 1-9-19 Opened 18 December 1913 and closed 10 February 1930. In 1927 was redesignated Z.L.A. Awanui. New Zealand's first high power spark tranmitter radio telegraph station for ship to shore communication making use of morse code. Was one of a number of ship to shore radio stations established in New Zealand in the period 1911-1913. Quantity: 1 b&w original negative(s).
