Description: Shows two men fishing on the banks of the Hutt River. The river winds to the left of the scene, with the hills of the gorge rising either side. Two tall trees, with straight trunks, tower over the fishing men. 'Taine's section' refers to the land owned by James John Taine (1817-1914), who resided in the Hutt until about 1847, when this scene was drawn Swainson drew several different views of the Hutt Valley gorges Inscriptions: Recto - beneath image - Entrance to the second valley.
