Description: Album containing photographs of Māori receptions for Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip on the royal tour of New Zealand in 1953-1954, taken by unknown photographers. Includes receptions in Waitangi, Ngaruawahia, and Rotorua, and contains many photographs of various iwi performing action songs and haka, as well as powhiri and wero. Most photographs have captions. Also includes photographic copies of the address from "the Māori Race" to the Queen read by the Minister of Māori Affairs at Rotorua, and the Queen's reply, and a photograph of the gifts given to the royal couple by Māori. Description: Ten photographic prints showing views and details of the exterior and mahau of the whare whakairo (ornately carved meeting house) Hinemihi ki Te Wairoa (Hinemihi I, Hinemihi o te Ao Tawhito), in the grounds of Clandon Park, Surrey, England; and portraits of Ngahuia Te Awekotuku in the whare. Includes one image taken from directly in front of the whare, across the marae ātea; two copies of an image taken from an oblique angle from the side of the marae ātea, showing part of the thatched roof; two copies of an image of a group of three poupou on one side of the mahau of the whare; two copies of an image of the top of one of the amo. Trees and shrubs are behind and to the sides of the house. A wooden park bench is situated in front of the mahau. One image of Ngahuia Te Awekotuku shows her standing inside the mahau, next to one of the amo. Two others show her inside the whare, standing next to the poutokomanawa, which is carved with a large lizard. She is wearing a hei pounamu (greenstone pendant) and collarless batik shirt. Description: One side of sheet shows photographs of all fourteen pairs of carved poupou or wall slabs in the interior of the meeting house, as well as tukutuku designs, a carved chair and two pou-tokopmanawa (free-standing pillars supporting the ridgepole). The other side shows interior photographs of the north (rear) wall as a whole, the south wall as a whole, and photographs of the exterior of the building, and details of lintel, proch poupou, tekoteko (of Kupe), amo, matapihi and pare, as well as plaques. Description: Shows the buildings of a small Maori village, with a raised storehouse in the centre, buildings to the left and right. The storehouse has three carved figures, one on the ridgepole and one on either end of the sloping bargeboards. In the centre foreground, a small figure tends a horse which is eating from a dish. A calf is tied in the left foreground. Five figures sit on the ground at the left just behind the storehouse. The building at the right is probably a stable and has a saddle hanging on the door. In the background is a low bushcovered hill.
