Description: Photographs taken by Gordon Tovey and official photographs. This collection relates to Tovey's journey to and participation in, the UNESCO International Study Conference on Arts and Crafts in Education, Tokyo, Japan, 1954. The Sydney photographs are views of the city, it's streets and buildings. The Japanese photographs include a few views of the city and it's people, but most relate to the conference. 18 photographs look as though they are part of an official record of the conference, the people attending, and associated events such as crafts people weaving. Others by Tovey cover similar subjects, and include a sequence showing actors performing traditional Japanese theatre. Some of his photographs are pictorialist in style and scenic in content.
