Youngest daughter of missionary Richard Taylor and his wife Caroline. Born Waimate North 4 February 1842 and raised at Putiki, Wanganui. Never married and died at Wanganui on 1 November 1878.

Description: The papers of Cranleigh Barton relate to his life and work as a watercolour artist living in Clifton, New Zealand. Scrapbooks contain travel souvenirs, sketches and clippings collected during his life and travels. Correspondence and diaries also comprise a large proportion of the collection; in particular, his diaries are extensive, documenting the years 1913-1974 and his various travels to Europe, the Middle East, Africa, South America, the Pacific, Asia and Canada. Within Cranleigh Barton's papers are personal papers of his forebears, Reverend Richard Taylor and his daughters, Mary C Medley, Bertha Taylor and Laura Harper. Items include correspondence and journals kept by Taylor on his arrival to New Zealand as a missionary in 1830, and cover observations on native flora, fauna, people and customs. Material belonging to his daughters mostly comprises personal diaries and scrapbooks. Mary Medley was a most prodigious diarist, and the collection contains volumes spanning 1849 to 1921. Audio recordings in the collection include readings from Reverend Taylor's diaries and recordings from the Reverend Richard Taylor memorial lectures.
