Description: The Fine Arts Association of New Zealand was founded in 1882 in Wellington. In 1889 the Association was wound up and its assets given to the new Academy of Fine Arts. This series comprises minutes of the Association to 1889, and the Academy to 1982. Balance sheets, exhibition catalogues and annual reports have been tipped in for the relevant years. The series also includes a diary kept by the Secretary, Jan-Apr 1945 (few entries only). Attached to this series are the three microfilm reels containing minute books, 1882-1870. From left to right, standing: A T Bate, Edward Noel Barraud, (painting of the late Charles Decimus Barraud, president of the Academy) Arthur Dewhurst Riley, Frederick de Jersey Clere. Seated: Thomas Kennedy Macdonald, Augustus Carl Ferdinand Koch, and F Grady. Photograph taken by Herrmann in about 1897. The portrait of Charles Barraud is by James Nairn, and was painted in 1897 which was also the year of Barraud's death (Info from Rebecca Rice, 2009). Source of descriptive information - Date and photographer identified by Library client. Formerly identified as New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts first council, circa 1908. Source of descriptive information - date 1897 for the portrait of Barraud by James Nairn supplied by library client. Also suggested that this may have been a retrospective gathering of men associated with the transition of the Fine Arts Association of New Zealand to the New Zealand Academy of Fine Arts in 1889.
