Maruia Society

In 1988 the Native Forests Action Council ceased to function after internal problems and the Maruia Society was formed by some members of NFAC and the Environmental Defence Society. In 1999 the Maruia Society evolved into the Ecologic Foundation.

Description: Comprises papers from a purple manilla folder labelled "F.M.C. ECO". Includes copies and originals of articles from a variety of sources about conservation and conservation groups in New Zealand dating from 1969 to 1997, several letters from Arnold Heine about the history of the Federated Mountain Clubs of New Zealand, a copy of the proceedings of Environment 77, a conference sponsored by the Environment Centre (Canterbury), a copy of the Bulletin of the Federated Mountain Clubs of New Zealand, Number 145, August 2001, a copy of 'Arts and Community' volume 10, number six, August 1973, a copy of Senior Management team minutes from an unnamed government department, a copy of the 'West Coast Accord', and a long letter from Frank Gaukroger about the environmental history of Gisborne. Some papers have yellow adhesive notes attached with annotations.
