Bayler, Terence, 1930-2016

Actor/singer. Born in Wanganui, the son of Amy (nee Allomes) and Harold Bayler. Although he was living mostly in the UK from 1950, he performed with the New Zealand Players at times in the 1950s. He played the lead in "Broken barrier" (1952), the first feature film produced in New Zealand after World War Two. He spent the years 1952-1956 acting in England, and made his West End debut in 1960. He began appearing in films from 1969, until about 1993. One of his roles was as Gregory (and other roles) in the film 'Life of Brian' (1979). In 1996, a still photograph of Bayler and his co-star, Kay Ngarimu, was featured on a postage stamp issued to mark the centenary of New Zealand cinema.
