Skey, William, 1835-1900

Chemist and metallurgist, poet. Came to Otago 1860, appointed to Geological Survey 1862, and in 1893 to the Mines Department. Published many papers on chemistry and metallurgy. Brother of Henry Skey (1836-1913). Photographed with Walter B D Mantell, Arthur Thomas Bothamley, Thomas William Kirk and others beside a whale which was captured at Stewart Island in January 1874.
