Government Printer. Born in Boston, Lincolnshire, England. Arrived in April 1862 in Dunedin aboard the ship 'Akbar'. Worked in Nelson as a compositor at the 'Nelson Examiner', the 'Colonist', and the 'Nelson Evening Mail'. Moved to Wellingotn in 1869. Known by Māori by the name of Hamuera Kohitare.
