Mayor of Wanganui 1927-1931, 1935-1953; member of various boards and committees. Also stood as a Labour Party candidate in elections for the Wanganui seat in 1930's. Previous to Wanganui, worked as gardener and miner at Denniston and was involved in the Miners' Union, and later secretary to the Wanganui Watersiders' Union. [WWNZ 10th edition 1971]
