Description: Political cartoons from the end of the ministry of Peter Fraser, and the lead up to the 1949 election in which he was defeated by Sidney Holland. These cartoons mainly address Holland's link to the British conservatives (which McNamara had a very negative view of), and general electioneering. Other cartoons relate to the "baby boom" that occurred after the war, the political situation in Britain, and an electricity crisis. Some illustrations of animals are also included. Describes education, medical school (St Margaret's College), Professor Gowland, Sir Lindo Ferguson, appointment as house surgeon at Timaru Hospital, travel to United Kingdom for post graduate work with Dr Sylvia Chapman, work and qualifications from Dublin, work with Lady Barrett and Miss Darnley (gynaecologists) in London, return to New Zealand and setting up of ante-natal clinics. Talks about work as Superintendant of Matakoa Hospital, Te Araroa in 1929, transport problems, as general practitioner in Symonds Street - Auckland. Describes in detail her work at Te Araroa and relations with patients, establishment of Dannevirke Hospital. Discusses women in general practice, her further post graduate work in Denmark and Sweden (endocrinology), her interest in animal hospitals and veterinary work, St Johns Ambulance, Salvation Army hostels, and endowment of Chairs of General Practice at Auckland and Otago, decline of tuberculosis, changes in medicine, and in medical practice.
