Sail into Summer Reading participants

Services to Schools developed and ran the Sail into Summer Reading programme to help school staff address the 'summer slide'. The following stories from participants reflect on the initiatives they ran in their schools following the programme.

Our Sail into Summer Reading programme is not currently running.

Primary schools

Summer reading at Ahipara School — their initiative increased summer reading by using a whole-school approach that included a photo competition, displays and visits to the public library.

Sailing into summer reading at Manchester Street School — they ran an initiative for a targeted group of students, who received summer reading packs with self-selected books and information for parents.

Secondary and area schools

Taking a 'book break' at Mahurangi College — the librarians involved the whole school and families, and had particular success with branding the summer reading initiative.
