The New Zealand Emissions Trading Scheme (NZ ETS) ins the New Zealand Government's primary tool for meeting domestic and international climate change targets, by encouraging reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. By putting a price on greenhouse gas emissions, it provides a financial incentive for businesses to reduce emissions and for landowners to plant trees to absorb carbon dioxide.
